Template (template)

Yes

The text pattern. Placeholders in double curly braces are replaced, see below. Everything else is passed on exactly as written

Placeholders

Placeholder Replaced with

{{input}}

The previous module’s whole result, as it is

{{fieldName}}

One field of the previous result, when that result is a JSON object. Text values are inserted as they are; numbers, lists and objects as JSON text

Spaces inside the braces are allowed: {{ input }} works too. Field names are matched exactly, including upper and lower case.

A placeholder that finds nothing stays in the text as written. It is not removed and does not cause an error. You will see the curly braces in the result.

Example

The previous module sends {"customer": "Smith", "product": "Laptop", "amount": 2}.

Template:

Write a short thank-you note to {{customer}} for ordering {{amount}} x {{product}}.

Output: Write a short thank-you note to Smith for ordering 2 x Laptop.

Use cases

  • Turning data into a prompt: a SQL Database result becomes "Summarise these figures for a manager: {{input}}" before it reaches an Agent.

  • Picking fields out of JSON: {{customer}} ordered {{product}}.

  • Adding fixed instructions around changing data, without putting them into the Agent’s Instruction.

Notes

  • If you see curly braces in the result, a field name did not match. Check the spelling and the upper and lower case against the previous module’s result.

  • {{fieldName}} works only when the previous result is a JSON object. For plain text, and for a JSON list, only {{input}} works.

  • The Template reads only the most recent result of the run — normally the module directly before it — not results from earlier steps.

  • Fast, free and gives the same result every time. Prefer it to asking a model to reformat something.

  • Text Format with Static Insert works in a similar way. Prefer the Template when a field holds a number, a list or an object: the Template inserts it as clean JSON text.
